Can a simple formula calculate how much water you need to drink in a day?

How much water do you really need to drink in a day?
From improving your skin and headaches to making you feel less tired, drinking sufficient levels of water can really help improve many ills.
Despite the current temperature for most of the UK hitting the early 30s, most people are not drinking enough water for their own individual needs.
Using a simple formula which will calculate exactly what you need as the amount required will differ from person to person.
Many articles and advisors, that adults should be drinking around 8 glasses of water a day, however, it is important to note that this is not always the case and every person’s body is different – and the amount of water that you may actually need to consume can be calculated using a simple formula.
This formula can be worked out as follow:
Step 1 – Calculate your weight in total number of pounds (lbs) and divide it by 2.2
Step 2 – Multiply that number by your current age
Step 3 – Divide that number by 28.3
Step 4 – This will give you a new sum which you then need to divide by 8 which will provide you with how many glasses of water you need to be drinking every day.
So, we have worked this out for two individuals
Chloe – 9 stone (28 years old) = 126 (lbs) divided by 2.2 = 57.27 x 28 (age) = 1603.63 divided by 28.3 = 56.66 divided by 8 = 7 glasses of water per day
Lisa - 8 stone (59 years old) = 112 (lbs) divided by 2.2 = 50.90 x 59 (age) = 3003 divided by 28.3 = 106.13 divided by 8 = 13 glasses of water per day
Obviously, this isn’t an exact science, and if you are very athletic, you may need to increase your quantity accordingly. Scientists at the American College of Sports Medicine have revealed that for every 30 minutes of exercise that you take, you ideally need to be drinking the equivalent of 340 ml to replace fluids.
Drinking water (particularly when you are on the go) can be hard, but there are lots of ways to help increase your water levels by consuming fruits that have a high-water content such as cucumber, celery and watermelon.
There are also many factors that need to be considered before you up your water intake and before you make a concerted effort to increase your water levels, we would highly recommend that you speak to your GP in the first instance as it is important to attain medical guidance before making any significant changes to your diet and water consumption.
